Hey everyone,

I am looking to purchase an iPhone, but I want to ask a couple of questions for the people who already have one.

1) Do you like it?
2) What's your favorite feature?
3) What your least favorite feature?
4) How much do you pay per month for your phone? (Optional)
5) Is it easy to type on the screen? Are the keys crammed into the screen or are they adequately spaced?
6) How is the iPhone as a 'phone?'
7) What's your favorite App from the iTunes Store?

If there is anything else you would like to share, feel free.

Thanks!

Well..

1) Yeah, a lot!
2) The phone itself it's my favorite features
3) There isn't only one... but yeah...
4) Nothing, I've payd 650 euros for my iPhone 3G
5) You only need to touch on the screen, not to press on it
6) Cool, the phone quality is good, but when you switch to 3G there are some issues with dropped call
7) Hard one, there are a lot of favorite apps, but two of them are BejiveIM (Instant messenger, kinda expensive but is good) and Edge (a beautiful game)

The iPhone is awesome! You should wait for the next version though.
The iPhone has the best touch screen, which is important because even if you have an OS or whatever that's better with another phone - if the touchscreen sucks you're not gonna want to use it in the first place.

Next version? Nobody knows if there will be one this year. That iPhone Nano it's a big shite, Jobs said that he like to compare the iPhone with a "gaming platform", if there would be a Nano iPhone then their Appstore will loose moneys (you won't be able to play games on a mini display etc.).

1) Do you like it? : I wouldn't buy one if I don't like it, and I don't regret my decision.
2) What's your favorite feature? the touchscreen and the WIFI
3) What your least favorite feature? 1. NO COPY AND PASTE 2.SMS, can't send group msg, no forward option。
4) How much do you pay per month for your phone? (Optional): N/A. unlocked it
5) Is it easy to type on the screen? Are the keys crammed into the screen or are they adequately spaced?: The touchscreen is easy to use, very sensitive and accurate. However, it sometimes lags a bit when you type.
6) How is the iPhone as a 'phone?': I can make/receive calls and send/receive msg.
7) What's your favorite App from the iTunes Store?: Remote!!!

Instead of answering the questions, I'll tell you more general stuff. Before the iPhone, I had one of the many versions of a HTC smart phone (qtek, ijam, mpv500 thingy) and it was my first experience. If you have never had a smart phone, I suggest you get one. Having never had one, the change to having it sync to your computer and being able to maintain a constant record of diaries, contacts, emails etc on phone and computer is great - you're never going to have to be the idiot posting on facebook "I lost my phone, send me your number..." etc.

In terms of how the iPhone differs - then you will hear both sides. Before I was a convert there were many things that I picked on as problems;

The lack of memory slot (especially as SD cards are getting larger and larger)
The lack of mms (picture sending)
The lack of video
No decent editing - can't even send the same text to many people without rewriting it (can you?)

But after getting it - it is well worth it. It does most of what any other smartphone does - and it is a late comer considering smartphones have been around for years. It does have flaws, which are being slowly corrected in some cases. For example - the GPS/Maps? It won't recognise that you are reaching a point in the directions and change, there are no actual directions given and its just a bit basic. BUT they have added walking and public transport and Im sure that it will evolve.

There is one overwhelming selling point to it, and thats the way its put together. It is quite simply one thing - not a collection of applications. The adverts show how you can swap between different programs and it really is great to use. It just feels like its well thought out and everything is made to work with other parts.

And thats the best bit. Its made by Apple. And so whilst a smartphone running off windows mobile has the OS and then programs made to work on that OS - Apple software is made by apple for apple phones. It just seems to be a lot more seamless.

I am extremely pleased I got it and I would encourage you to get one. As a quick disclaimer - I am neither profficient in windows mobile or apple software, I just offer an opinion based on limited experience and own findings.

Wow! These responses are awesome.

All the reviews online are okay, but I'm glad to get feedback from all of you. Thanks a bunch!

I'm waiting for my contract to expire from Sprint; once that is done, AT&T/iPhone.... here i come! (I also take a look at the N97, it looks very impressive, too!)

The iPhone has the best touch screen, which is important because even if you have an OS or whatever that's better with another phone - if the touchscreen sucks you're not gonna want to use it in the first place.

First, I'd like to say something. I read the previous comments, and I am a tech junkie. I always have the best gadgets, and I'm up to date technology wise (I'm not just a gadget admirer).

Second, there are better phones on the market than the iPhone 3G. 2 of which are the HTC Touch Pro and the HTC Touch HD. I will be comparing the 3 phones.

Okay, the iPhone DEFINITELY does NOT have the best touchscreen! What are you comparing it to?

The iPhone 3G has a 3.5" screen with 480x320 pixels. (SOURCE)
The HTC Touch HD has a 3.8" WVGA screen with 480x800 pixels (SOURCE)

All 3 phones have capacitive touch screens, whereas the HTC phones also use a stylus (in addition to being capacitive touch).

Second, a Smart phone technically does not have a touch screen. You want to compare to Pocket PC's. Very different.

The HTC Touch Pro and HCD both have built-in GPS chips. They can be used with turn-by-turn navigation, Google Maps (all with Street View). The iPhone has assisted-GPS, which means it gets its location via cell tower triangulation. I'm not sure if it has a built-in GPS chip. I do know my brothers iPhone 3G GPS location is not as accurate as my HTC Touch Pro GPS location.

All 3 phones have an Accelerometer.

The iPhone 3G has a 2.0MP camera with no flash.
THe HTC Touch Pro has a 3.2MP camera with an intensely bright flash (that can be used as a flashlight with a few different apps).
The HTC Touch HD has a 5.0MP camera with no flash.

The HTC Touch Pro and HD have second front CMOS camera for video calling (only available on GSM versions, and yes, it does work. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=OYVBok0I6EE - The HTC Diamond is the HTC Touch Pro with no keyboard, and internal memory).

The iPhone 3G has a 8GB OR 16 GB internal storage.
The HTC phones use a removeable Micro SDHC storage card (which goes up to 16GB).

The iPhone 3G has a 1150mAh battery.
The HTC Touch Pro has a 1340mAh battery.
The HTC Touch HD has a 1350mAh battery.

The iPhone 3G uses an iPhone 3G charger, whereas the HTC touch Pro and HD use mini USB - far more common than iPhone 3G chargers.

The iPhone 3G has a 412mHz processor (SOURCE)
The HTC Touch Pro and HD both have a Qualcomm 528mHz processor. (sourced above).

I couldn't find official info on the ROM/RAM specs for the iPhone 3G.
The HTC Touch Por and HD both have 512 ROM and 288 RAM (which I'm almost certain is far more than the iPhone 3G).

All 3 phones have Wifi 802.11b/g

The iPhone 3G does not support A2DP bluetooth profiles (bluetooth audio streaming). The HTC Touch Pro and HTC Touch HD both do.

The HTC Touch Pro has audio/video output. I hear the iPhone 3G has this as well, but I'm not sure. I know many of you guys would love this feature. You can get your new release movies, put them on your memory card, and take it ANYWHERE, and play it on any TV with A/V inputs! Not only are movies shown on the screen, but whatever you see and hear on your phone is played on the tv.

The HTC Touch Pro has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

The HTC Touch Pro and Touch HD both have full advanced file browsing and editing. They also have FTP support, and as well as transfer files via Bluetooth. iPhone uses SSH FTP (Files can only be accessed via FTP client on the computer).

The HTC Touch Pro and Touch HD can both support right click (hold click), and copy/paste. Very basic features the iPhone 3G lacks.

There are many, many, many apps and games for the Windows Mobile 6.1 pocket PC devices.

Oh, and did I mention the HTC Touch Pro and HD both do MMS? They also both support flash video playback? The both support Java? The iPhone 3G does none of these things.

So in conclusion, this is just a small taste of how the iPhone 3G is NOT better than other phones, in fact, these other phones are much better. If you want an iPhone 3G because everyone and their grandma has one, just like everyone and their great grandma had a Motorola Razr a few years back, then get one. If you want a truly top of the line, fully functional, no BS, no marketing hype phone, get the HTC Touch Pro (or HTC Touch HD).

I have an iphone and is the best gadget i had bought since today. In my opinion you' re gonna never regret the
money that you re going to spend. The best with iphone is that it has unlimited features. It can do anything , no
limits at all.. I know many say that it hasn't bluetooth , guess what it's a matter of days since that happens.

It is really easy to use. It has a great touch screen with beatuful grapchics , wifi (believe me you will really enjoy surfing),
many games appz and many more. You can even put linux.. Dont even think of it buy it!

Thanks for the extensive comparison, however, it seems a little biased since you mentioned a lot of the advantages the HTC phones have over the IPhone while omitting the advantages the IPhone has over the other two. Let me make a few additions.

Although the HTC Touch HD has a better resolution touch screen than the IPhone, the IPhone has a multitouch screen which in my opinion makes browsing and displaying pics much much easier. Since the screens on both phones are on the small side (not compared to other phones, but to computers and etc, of course) one has to constantly zoom in and out in order to read small text. The IPhone multitouch makes it very easy to do that with one flicker of the thumb and the index finger, while letting you adjust the multitude of the zoom in this motion as well. (The more you move your fingers apart, the more it zooms in, etc.)

I believe the IPhone 3g has the actual gps unlike its older brother. The reason they call it assisted is because it is assisted by the GSM tower triangulation method. As you know, most GPS receivers are unable to receive a signal indoors. In that case the IPhone uses the triangulation which is not as accurate as GPS, but at least works. I am not sure if the HTC phones take advantage of that.

In my opinion, the biggest disadvantage of the HTC phones is that they use Windows mobile. It is just not suited for touchscreen phones and I don't know why microsoft isn't doing anything about it. On a lot of the demos I see on youtube for the HTCs, people are using the stylus to navigate through the windows mobile menus. Although HTC has their own software "Touchflo", it is not really the OS, but seems more like a limited interface like the HP Touchsmart has. You still have to go through the windows menus.

I personally wanted to get a Touch cruise when it first came out (That was before the Iphone 3g and the HTC phones were far superior (hands down) than the 2g in terms of hardware) But now the hardware is very similar, which makes the software play a more important part in the decision making.

But since Touch Cruise, something has changed for HTC phones. They are no longer tri-band HSDPA. That became the dealbreaker for me since phones bought overseas through ebay would no longer work in the US and there is really no competitive pricing for US only models of phones due to less suply and high demand.

I guess I'm gonna have to go with the Iphone 3g unless HTC comes out with a new Touch HD with multitouch and tri-band HSDPA/UMTS.

Just noticed this topic and couldn't leave this topic uncommented.

The fact that it reacts better to touch then the HTC, I've tried both and the 3G actually moves with your finger (the cursor inside text)
And that you can use it with two fingers. Ever browsed a website on a phone? All those screens are to small to read a normal site. Just tap on the text or picture and it fills the screen, no annoying zooming or w/e.

oh wow, video calling, could be nice, but most people don't have a phone with video calling and personally I don't like the other person seeing me al the time... Meet me f2f if you wanna see me.

The iPhone 3G uses an iPhone 3G charger, whereas the HTC touch Pro and HD use mini USB - far more common than iPhone 3G chargers.

3G comes with a cable for usb to the iphone, which can be put into your pc or the charger, this is actually the best option ever, who wants to leave their pc on the whole night because you noticed your phone is empty just before going to bed.

Quote

The iPhone 3G has a 412mHz processor (SOURCE)
The HTC Touch Pro and HD both have a Qualcomm 528mHz processor. (sourced above).

actually on the iphone you don't need that much cpu power, it has a real good cpu usage management, this unlike windows mobile.

Quote

I couldn't find official info on the ROM/RAM specs for the iPhone 3G.
The HTC Touch Por and HD both have 512 ROM and 288 RAM (which I'm almost certain is far more than the iPhone 3G).

it has 128mb, but I've never heard of a phone that needed more than that, what the heck would you want to use it for?

Quote

The iPhone 3G does not support A2DP bluetooth profiles (bluetooth audio streaming). The HTC Touch Pro and HTC Touch HD both do.

actually this is the first real anoying part of the iPhone, I've got a bluetooth stereo headset, which I use to walk around my house and listen music, skype etc. But now I've got some kind of bluetooth dongle on my iPhone which delivers the stereo sound to my headset on the road.

Quote

The HTC Touch Pro and Touch HD can both support right click (hold click), and copy/paste. Very basic features the iPhone 3G lacks.

the copy/paste is a lacking feature, but it doesn't bother me that often.

There are many, many, many apps and games for the Windows Mobile 6.1 pocket PC devices.

So? do have seen the apps in the iTunes store? They are of a way better quallity then most apps you can find on the net. And you haven't to find them yourself, just browse through the appstore like a real store.

My last note; If you ever had a car like a honda celica and then bought a bmw 3, than you know the difference, the Honda seems good maybe even better in the specs, but the BMW owns the honda on everything just because it has a better handling and usage.
This is the same between the Touch and the 3G, I've both (the Touch not anymore) and honestly the 3G is just better because of the easy handling and the details in the small things.

But in all things, there is a lot to be improved.
